Getting ready for WWDC23 in Cupertino
✅ Tickets booked
✅ Place to sleep booked
⚠️ Finalizing itinerary for activities during the week
If you're like me and you've decided to go to Cupertino for WWDC23, you might be considering how long and where should you stay and what activities are available that you can join that week.
How long should you stay?
This really depends on you and your budget. If you are from the other side of the world, you probably would want to maximize the cost of your plane ticket and would stay for a week or two.
First Week
Focus on all the activities during WWDC weekExtra days/week
Focus on activities that you can do in the SF or in the US.
I would suggest arriving on June 3 (Saturday) or June 4 (Sunday). June 3 so that you can settle down first and then June 4 to get your badge at the dev center* and attend community events happening in the afternoon.
*According to last year, they were able to get their badge on Sunday.
What events or activities are happening during WWDC week in Cupertino?
I've listed the tentative schedule of events that were announced already by the community. Be sure to check out Core Coffee, iOSDevHappyHour, WWDCCommunity, Jordi Bruin and James Dempsey for events happening in Cupertino.
For info, the Open Space is a place for us to watch WWDC videos and participate in the activities together. With this, we can easily share our learnings to the community during the week.
If you are interested to join the Open Space and the in-person Community Hackathon, please sign up here.
There's also a discord group for people going to SF: https://discord.gg/E9vQRUw5. You might want to check it out.
Where should you stay?
If you are attending the Special Event at Apple Park, I would suggest to stay near Cupertino Area (for Sunday - Tuesday). San Francisco (SF) is a bit far and may cost you a lot of money and time travelling back and forth during those days. You can then stay at SF if you want after Monday and explore San Francisco during the week.
Note: From what I have observed last year, most events were located in Cupertino/San Jose.
What to bring or prep for WWDC week?
I'm not yet sure on what to bring or prepare for WWDC Week. But on my note, I've listed the following:
Devices (Macbook, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, etc), External HD, Powerbank, Chargers.
Betas will be out and WWDC videos will drop daily, so have your devices ready if you want to test them out and be part of all the activities during the week.
Prepare your app(s) or project(s).
WWDC is a great time to promote or ask feedback about your app to the community, the engineers/UI Design Team at Apple, and media. Get them all ready and start promoting whenever you can. You'd learn a lot from the process and you can improve whatever you are building.
Swags (stickers, pins, shirts, biz card) about your product that you would like to share with the community.
Swags are a great way to promote your product. Sometimes, it's just fun exchanging swags with your fellow developers.
- Prepare your digital presence (whether it's linkedin, twitter, mastodon, your website or your profile here at https://dubdub.space).
There might be a lot of networking activities that can happen during the week, and building those connections from people you have met can help you in your career or growth as a dev in the future.
For now, here's the tips that I can think of. If you have more tips or suggested events or activities, you can share it in the comment below. Hope you like this article. :)
